Community Wildfire Protection Planning &
Natural Resource and Hazard Mitigation Planning
Teton County prepared its Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) in 2024. This is our guiding document that contains strategies to prepare for wildfires and to reduce risks for homeowners and communities in the County. In 2022, TWMT wrote the CWPP for Sublette County in partnership with Y2 Consultants and Sublette County Unified Fire: Sublette County CWPP link
TWMT can help your smaller community, or HOA, develop a Wildfire Preparedness and Evacuation Plan (“mini-CWPP”) at the neighborhood scale.
Our Team will facilitate the following process:
Develop a team of community representatives
Involve community experts and agency representatives
Engage all neighborhood homeowners
Establish a baseline map to identify values at risk and fire behavior hazards
Develop a community wildfire risk assessment
Establish community priorities and recommendations for fire preparedness & evacuation planning
Develop a Mitigation Action Plan and an implementation strategy
Finalize the Community Wildfire Protection Plan or Wildfire Preparedness and Evacuation Plan
Leadership and collaboration are the keys to the process, and the Teton Wildfire Mitigation Team can provide this for your community. In 2022, TWMT developed a Fire Preparedness and Evacuation Plan for the Gros Ventre North Subdivision and the Lost Creek Ranch/HOA, both in Teton County. As a result of the plan and homeowner motivation, Gros Ventre North was recognized as a Firewise USA Community in August 2022. Many other preparedness plans have been developed in Teton County.
We can also assist any government agency or private entity with land management and natural resource planning, hazard mitigation planning, and emergency management planning.
